  • What is the difference between a joiner and carpenter?

    Loosely a joiner would typically be in work shop joining timber and making things such as

    windows, using workshop machinery for various wood projects. A carpenter is more on site,

    either on buildings sites completing all the woodwork or installing timber projects that have

    been made else where, or made up on site.

  • Is a carpenter better than a joiner?

    Either trade would probably argue the opposite but they both have their uses, neither is

    better as long as each does their job correctly. All trades working together seamlessly

  • What does bespoke joinery mean?

    Bespoke Joinery basically means woodwork to fit a required space or specific area. Bespoke

    woodwork can range from basic things like making small items of furniture to larger things

    like fitted wardrobes or entire garden buildings or timber garden offices. Bespoke means

    that all aspects of a project can be tailor made as required, the client can pick or change

    every aspect of a design from the type of wood used to small details link a certain style of

    hinge.

  • Do I need planning permission for my garden building or summer house?

    Typically no, as most are a temporary structure. However it is worth checking with your

    local council before commencing any work on an outdoor garden building or summer house.

    Most of the time as long as it’s not above 3 meters in height, doesn’t take over 50% of the

    garden and is timber in structure you tend to be ok, but as I say, check first.

  • What interiors can you get for fitted wardrobes?

    Almost anything, varying from pull down rails to soft close drawers. Even tie and sock

    drawers, adjustable shelving, shoe racks, basically anything, especially if you are having a

    bespoke fitted wardrobe installed.

  • What is the best material to build alcove units?

    It’s a matter of personal opinion, the most common material used to build alcove cupboards

    and shelving tends to be MDF as it’s very versatile and can easily be painted to match the

    walls or colour scheme of the room. Oak or other hardwoods are also often used also but

    this increases the cost considerably.

  • Can you install pre finished doors?

    Yes no problem at all but be aware that more often than not if you are fitting doors into

    existing doors frames the sides and top/bottom will need shaving or cutting meaning the

    edges will need to be touched up after fitting with what ever was used to pre treat the

    doors.

  • What is a pergola?

    A pergola is basically a structure that creates some shade with slats or beams across the top

    which usually have vines or something similar grown up them. Different to a gazebo or

    pavilion which give complete shade from the sun with a solid roof.

  • How much to install decking?

    This varies job to job and it’s impossible to give a price per square meter including fitting as

    every garden is different and the job needs to be seen to asses ground, pitch etc to

    determine how long it will take to fit the decked area.

  • Is bespoke joinery expensive?

    This can depend on the size of the project and what materials are used. It doesn’t have to be

    expensive and we can accommodate all budgets, some bespoke furniture items have been

    made from as little as £50. The best thing to do is to get in contact to discuss you desires.

  • Does a Joiner make windows and doors?

    Short answer yes, typically it would be a joinery manufacturer in a workshop that would

    make bespoke doors and windows for a carpenter to then fit. Although in current times you

    find moist joiners/carpenters would source pre made doors and windows and fit them in

    your home as opposed to making them then fitting them, it’s far more cost effective and

    speeds up the process.

  • What does a joinery Business do?
